EcoKids Update — December 7, 2009

Dear Educators,

Before we all take a well deserved holiday, Earth Day Canada and it’s flagship EcoKids program wanted to let you know about some recent successes that will help you deliver important environmental education year round.

  • We’ve recently formed partnerships with several Faculties of Education to develop new lesson plans. A special thanks to Professor Nicholas Ng-A-Fook and students from Developing a Global Perspective for Educators Cohort at the University of Ottawa for developing three new lesson plans.
  • Teachers are posting their environmental success stories and sharing their experiences on our Teachers’ Forum. It would be great to have you join the conversation!
  • The EcoKids Inventor Contest is now open for submissions! Have your students draw, build or write about a creative solution to an environmental problem for their chance to win some great prizes. Send submissions to eko@earthday.ca by February 19, 2010.
  • The Great EcoKids Challenge is your opportunity, as a teacher, to have students initiate, lead and work together on an environmental project resulting in positive change. This year’s theme is Energy, so check out our high energy curriculum-linked ideas to get started. Register by April 30th, 2010 to be eligible to win great Sony prizes!

If you have any environmental resources you would like to share with educators across the country please feel free to email it to us at eko@earthday.ca.

Happy Holidays!
