EcoKids Update — October 26, 2009

Dear Educator,

I hope you’ve all settled into your classrooms and are planning new ways to green your schools and take the message out to the greater community.

Great EcoKids Challenge participantsFor the past nine years EcoKids has challenged Canadian youth and educators from kindergarten to grade 8 to take environmental action in their school and community. The Great EcoKids Challenge is your opportunity, as a teacher and mentor, to have the students initiate, lead and work together on an environmental project resulting in positive change. Check out the high energy curriculum-linked ideas that EcoKids has come up with for this year’s theme. Inspire in your class, school and community to become life-long environmental stewards; register by April 30th, 2010 to be eligible to win great Sony prizes!

We’ve been renovating and reorganizing! The home page for the EcoKids Lesson Plans has been given a new look, making it easier to find curriculum-linked lesson plans from your province. And our ever growing Literacy Corner is now divided by theme making it easier for you to locate the resources you want.

Great News! Since the last update we’ve had two blog postings from EcoKids. Blogs are a great way for children to strengthen writing skills and share their thoughts with kids around the world. Encourage your students to write about an environmentally related issue and send it to ecokids@earthday.ca.
