The students at Houghton Public School, in Langton, Ontario, were busy this year with their leader, Amy DeDobbelaer, becoming more environmentally conscious through education. This group of 230 students involved the entire school in all of their environmental projects. Check out what they have done:

Wrote Letters to the local government requesting the speed limit be changed along a busy road in an effort to reduce the number of amphibian, reptile, and mammal deaths
Set up a used Clothing Swap where students exchanged clothing and accessories
Created an Earth Day Pledge Tree where students wrote their promise to the Earth on a ‘leaf’ and added it to the tree
Wrote and presented Daily Announcements over the P.A. system educating the school about Earth Week
Initiated a Lights Out Day for the entire school for Earth Day
Started a Native Species Garden in their school yard
