Going for Gold

February 2010 — “Going for Gold- Earth Status V” was our goal all of last year and in November we got a trophy for reaching 5000 activities before the 2010 Olympic Games! We are #1 Green School “Gold” in all of Canada! From September to December we got our Green Kids Club organized, we had a successful Popcan Pull Tab Challenge to help the Chase Lions Club win their provincial challenge. We made banners to announce and celebrate our success. We attended a School Board Meeting to be recognized as the #1 Green School in Canada!

In December we were invited by the TNRD to a Waste Management and Recycling Info Day at the Village Hall to see the unveiling of the new recycling truck. We had written letters to the Mayor and Village last year as well as in the fall to see if recycling bins and/or curbside collection would begin in Chase. At that information day they were handing out blue bags for grocery shopping and blue bags for collecting recyclables when students saw drinks being handed out in styrofoam cups!!! Because they complained the Olympic Torch Relay happening here later this month will not be using styrofoam, and they'll be using a paper/cardboard type instead.

This year our goal is to make a difference in our town and we’re already doing that!
