Forests are rich communities of interrelated organisms that depend on each other for survival. All components of the forest community are essential to its health and well-being. Forests offer food, water, shelter and protection for an incredible array of wildlife.
The term "biodiversity" is used to describe the variety of life. The biodiversity found in forests is greater than any other ecosystem. That means that the number of different plants and animals living in forests is greater than in any other type of habitat.
Rain forests cover only 7 per cent of the land on Earth but they contain nearly half of all the trees on Earth.
