Unique Qualities:
Moose have a big body with skinny legs—usually over 2.5 m in height and weighing more than 550 kg. Moose have a long nose, a droopy top lip, and a big hump at the shoulders. The flap of skin that hangs beneath its throat is called a bell.
Can be Seen:
Moose are found across most of Canada, Scandinavia and northern Asia.
Likes to Hang Out:
In the summer, moose like to live near streams and lakes. In the winter, moose move deeper into forests.
Likes to Eat:
In the summer moose love to eat aquatic and marsh plants such as horsetails and pondweed. During the winter, moose feed on berries, twigs and branches. They also eat the bark of trees and paw through the snow to find the grass and twigs hidden underneath.
Status:
The moose populations in Canada are stable. The main predators for moose are wolves, bears and humans.
