Ideas for Prizes

We have provided 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize ribbons which can be printed. Please note: while the images on screen are in colour they are designed so that they can be also be printed in black and white and photocopied onto coloured paper.

These ribbons are printed in twos. Make sure you have set your printer to landscape.

Soliciting Local Businesses for Additional Prizes

1. Compile a list of businesses to approach.
   When compiling your list, consider the following: where do kids hang out? Where are their favourite stores to get games, clothes, music, etc?
2. Prepare a package to send out to local businesses and potential prize donors.
   It should include the following:
   • Cover letter introducing the school.
   • Contest Guidelines.
   • A list of ways you will highlight the prizes and donors, e.g. awards ceremony, school newsletter, community newspaper.
   • Background material on the issue of idling and air quality, e.g. a copy of the Switch off! flyer (150 kb PDF.)
   Note: Write thank you letters to ALL donors, whether the donation was big or small.

Once the package is prepared, start calling around and follow up by faxing, emailing or mailing the package to those who are interested. If you have the time drop it off, this kind of personal touch is always effective. (Make sure you have the package ready to send so they receive it while it is still fresh in their minds).
