The Trouble with Bottled Water

The bottles are made of plastic and are disposed of after one use (hopefully it’s recycled but more likely it’s thrown away as trash). It also takes energy in the form of fossil fuels to transport the bottled water from one place to another (sometimes from one country to another). Also, a bottle of water can often cost $1 or more, you’re paying more for water than for gasoline for your vehicle!
Does this make sense when Canadians have access to clean and safe water from the tap?
When Dr. David Suzuki speaks at different places across Canada, he always insists that he be given tap water. He says, “Not only does bottled water lead to unbelievable pollution with old bottles lying all over the place but plastic has chemicals in it.”
Do your part by not buying bottled water. Bring your own bottle with you and fill it with tap water.

hi! i alsothink drinking bottled water is harmful but how to stop people buying them when they are so cheap and readily available. especiallyin developing nations where people buy them without knowing about the potential hazards.

i think bottled water is bad because there is alot of chemicals in the water which is no good to drink. people shouldnt be using them in the calssrooms.

yeah bottled water is bad … cuz …. it is .. hehe so drink filltered water cuz its better for the environment and it reduces waste so landfills dont overflow id like to make a shout out 4 branman lol this was a good entry for this blog

i think that it is very smart to use a reusable water bottle when u go for a long hike. that way you can save fossil fuels. and u can buy big reusable water bottles and get more water out of it!!!!!! be smart and save the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

people dont realize that bottled water is bad for the environment … it is easyily available and is cheap …. it takes time to grab a water bottle fill it up with water and twist on the cap othger than just grabbing a water bottle and your ready if u want to cut back on the waste from bottled water that water companies need to be aware of the problem involving waste

Hello kids or adults from Canada! I am a student of a school in Nashville, Tennesse and we have a website like yours. We too are trying to save the Earth from GlobaL Warming. Now the comment about water bottles. I feel safer drinking bottled water beacause it is purified a lot. I am also happy that you can recycle the bottles. But the manufacturing process is the problem. Why go through all of the trouble just to make bottle? While you make the bottle, all of the chemicals billowing out of the chimneys as poisonous gases or smoke just ruins our atmosphere, and comes down as acid rain ruining trees! There are good things AND bad things about bottled water. Just try to stay on the good side.

Bottled water should be banned. In fact, most of the non-recyclable plastics should be banned. In sports day, there were 1000+ students attending the sports day. The teachers did something very serious. The teachers, they bought a few bottles for every student! So example we have 1200 students. Each students get 2 free bottled water. 1200×2=2400. 2400 wasted MIDDLE-SIZED bottles.

Buying water in bottes is not a smart idea. First, you can get water for free at home, and you can also get from contaminations in the water!

i agree plastic water bottles do have cemicals in them and the also take up a lot of space in our land fills . so if every family uses a reuseible water bottle it will reduce the amont of water bottle in the loand fill

I hate bottled water. It is bad for our environment. Why do we need to pollute our world. Why pay for water when you can get it for free from the faucet? Go Green!

Bottles of water should not be made anymore. down here in PA, most of lancaster county has horrible water coming from the taps. most of us prefer bottled water because our water tastes horrible. maybe if they could find a way to make bottles out of something more biodegradable, we could use as many as we do now, but help the enviroment a little more. BOTTLED WATER SHOULD BE BANNED!!!

I think that bottled water is really good! because it is good for the environment. But the plastic on the bottle is very bad because some people take off the plastic and then just through it out into the street. Sometimes other people take the water bottle plastic and just through it out without even trying to recycling it or re-using it! So thats what I don’t understand but I do love water! So try to save the Earth!

Well! Isay using bottled waters is just polluting our environment!!!!! I say using tap water from the faucet is better than just polluting the environment!!!!!! GO GREEN!:] :}
